The Mary Sue (great website for feminists and any sort of geek) examines why the Wonder Woman movie hasn't yet been made, possibly due very heavily to DC comics President Diane Nelson says she's a tricky character to tackle in movie form. And she's right--Wonder Woman won't be easy to translate to film for a number of reasons. For one, how can this goddess work in a world with Batman (a somewhat more realistic world) and Superman (a world where aliens exist)? Her origin story alone will be complicated to execute in a believable fashion. For another thing, Wonder Woman has always been a feminist icon, so the writers of a film version will have to do justice to that. She needs to be a strong, independent woman, capable of solving her own problems and representing the female populace. No wonder there hasn't been a female comic character film since 2005.
