Virginia Tech Hokies

The Virginia Tech Hokies are the athletic teams officially representing the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in intercollegiate athletics. The Hokies participate in the NCAA's Division I Atlantic Coast Conference in 19 varsity sports. Virginia Tech's men's sports are football, basketball, baseball, cross country, golf, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, and wrestling. Virginia Tech's women's sports are basketball, cross country, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field and volleyball. Virginia Tech won a national championship in bass fishing (though not an NCAA varsity sport), as well as in individual track and field events and the men's basketball team has won the 1995 and 1973 NIT tournaments. In addition, a theretofore undefeated Hokies football team lost to Florida State in the 2000 Sugar Bowl for the 1999 national championship and finished the season with a #2 ranking in the BCS Poll.
