Trustee (or the holding of a trusteeship) is a legal term which, in its broadest sense, is a synonym for anyone in a position of trust and so can refer to any person who holds property, authority, or a position of trust or responsibility for the benefit of another. A trustee can also refer to a person who is allowed to do certain tasks but not able to gain income. Although in the strictest sense of the term a trustee is the holder of property on behalf of a beneficiary, the more expansive sense encompasses persons who serve, for example, on the board of trustees of an institution that operates for a charity, for the benefit of the general public, or a person in the local government.

This year trustees across the state traveled to the beautiful Paris Landing State Park. David Stone, Henry county trustee and TCTA President, hosted all of us to a four day experience that both benefited and provided opportunity for trustees to unite on new ideas as well as become knowledgeable on upcoming changes. Each day was filled with fun events and great food such as shopping and visiting a shooting range. Being blessed by a gracious host, trustees and friends alike were even able to socialize and dine at former governor Ned McWherter's beautiful Lake House. On the third night, David Stone planned live music and dinner at a local marina restaurant. He even went to the extent of personal entertainment when he joined the band on stage to sing for all of us. The last night of the conference was exquisite with the TCTA banquet. Ladies like Bedford Trustee Tonya Davis and Tipton County Trustee Kristie Maxwell dressed to impress and filled the Paris themed. Guest speaker Roy Herron won our hearts with laughter, while the marvelous Trustee Lucyle Hampton won the award for Trustee of the Year. Also winners for each grand division were announced with Mike Smith winning trustee of year for East Tennessee, Lee Ann Williams for Middle Tennessee, and Marci Floyd for West Tennessee. Congratulations to all of these great trustees! Overall, it was a specular experience for trustees and vendors alike, and we would love to thank everyone involved in scheduling the TCTA conference for 2013.
