The Perks of Being a Wallflower

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a coming-of-age epistolary novel by American writer Stephen Chbosky, which was first published on February 1, 1999, by Pocket Books. Set in the early 1990s, the novel follows Charlie, an introverted teenager, through his freshman year of high school in a Pittsburgh suburb. The novel details Charlie’s unconventional style of thinking as he navigates between the worlds of adolescence and adulthood, and attempts to deal with poignant questions spurred by his interactions with both his friends and family.

How I portray one of the book's most famous lines. I love to give readers a visual to the written word, hopefully I portrayed it accurately! Also, please disregard the other photo, it did not download properly, if I could take it down, I would.

In the book Stephen Chbosky used a poem that Charlie later found out was somebody's suicide note. Their is a lot of debate whether or not the poem was written by Charlie's friend Michael, who, in the book committed suicide. The poem was actually written by a fifteen year old boy, his name is still unknown, sometime in the 1960's, two years before he committed suicide. The poem has been featured in Time in an article about teen suicide. The poem's title is "To Santa Claus and Little Sisters."
