Superman is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, high school students living in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1933. They sold Superman to Detective Comics, the future DC Comics, in 1938. Superman debuted in Action Comics #1 (cover-dated June 1938) and subsequently appeared in various radio serials, newspaper strips, television programs, films, and video games. With this success, Superman helped to create the superhero archetype and establish its primacy within the American comic book.

Superman makes his debut!

Superman first appearance was in the 1938 issue of Action Comics. About 100 copies of this issue are known to exist.

In the film Superman Returns (widely considered one of the biggest superhero movie failures of all time for various reasons) Superman does not punch anybody at any one point of the movie, a somewhat ironic idea for one of the most powerful characters in comic book history.

In 1986, the Superman mythos was retold in the limited issue Superman: The Man of Steel. The comics written by John Byrne told the origin story of Superman again in 6 issues, from the destruction of his home planet Krypton to his time in Smallville, meeting Batman, and eventually learning of his past. The comics also reintroduced such iconic characters as Lois Lane and Lex Luthor. Luthor was an example of things that were slightly changed for the new, 1980s series, as he went from a mad scientist to a wealthy businessman.

I love superman. He's definitely my favorite. Here's a list of all the actors that portrayed him in live action films/tv series. My personal favorites have to be Tom Welling (Smallville) or Christopher Reeves (1978-1987).

What is Superman punched you? You would be very dead, and the area around you for miles, would be severely damaged. This video is pretty awesome, but it brings to question, how can the villains Superman fights withstand him? I'd like to see a video on some of the villains.
