During the script writing process of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, which began in 2006, writer of the original graphic novels Bryan Lee O'Malley was heavily involved. He polished some scenes, provided ideas, added lines of dialogue, and even gave the writers early notes for the sixth book "Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour". Essentially, some elements in the film that differ from the graphic novels could be things O'Malley originally planned but changed later on.
