Random act of kindness

A random act of kindness is a nonpremeditated, inconsistent action designed to offer kindness towards the outside world.

The phrase "practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty" was written by Anne Herbert on a placemat in Sausalito, California in 1982. It was based on the phrase "random acts of violence and senseless acts of cruelty". Herbert's book Random Kindness and Senseless Acts of Beauty was published in February 1993 speaking about true stories of acts of kindness.

My mother spent her life making other people feel better. As a nurse, a friend, and a caregiver to everyone she met, she changed lives. In her honor, we have begun a movement of "Carin'" in which we preform random acts of kindness every day. We leave cards explaining that what is found is a gift, no strings attached, just to make a day better. Examples, not limited to; Leaving a few bucks in a windshield wiper, buying the next order, leaving an umbrella at a bus stop, a book in a lobby, bag of toys on top of a car obviously used by children, a hat and gloves for a passerby, a gift card in a shopping cart, new flowers on a gravesite, carrying groceries before it can be refused, and so much more. What would you do? We always need new ideas. It's the little things that matter.
