Qualia

In philosophy and certain models of psychology, qualia (/ˈkwɑːliə/ or /ˈkwliə/; singular form: quale) are claimed to be individual instances of subjective, conscious experience. The term qualia derives from the Latin neuter plural form (qualia) of the Latin adjective quālis (Latin pronunciation: [ˈkʷaːlɪs]) meaning "of what sort" or "of what kind" in a specific instance like "what is it like to taste a specific orange, this particular orange now". Examples of qualia include the perceived sensation of pain of a headache, the taste of wine, as well as the redness of an evening sky. As qualitative characters of sensation, qualia stand in contrast to "propositional attitudes", where the focus is on beliefs about experience rather than what is it directly like to be experiencing.

Synesthetic experiences could be a form a qualia. (Click the link in the suggested topics area for an explanation of synesthesia!) Think about it, each synesthetic experience is different, and (as a color grapheme synesthete myself) it is impossible to see and accept any other experience. For example, the letter A has always associated with a bright red color. It would be distracting to force myself to think of A and a purple or blue color, they just won't "match!" This Youtuber was mentioned by Michael from Vsauce (see the video below!). This man was blind from birth. His videos talk about his point of view as a blind person and some troubles with trying to wrap his head around the visual experiences of the sighted. If you like his video, subscribe!
