Psychosis is an abnormal condition of the mind that results in difficulties telling what is real and what is not. Symptoms may include false beliefs and seeing or hearing things that others do not see or hear. Other symptoms may include incoherent speech and behavior that is inappropriate for the situation. There may also be sleep problems, social withdrawal, lack of motivation, and difficulties carrying out daily activities.

A UC, Davis presentation of psychotic disorders by professor Glen Xiong, who talks about different psychotic disorders and how consideration of these disorders might change. Who meets the criteria for a psychotic disorder? How do you measure one? He does a good job of explaining some sample questions to ask patients as well as showing how we can monitor the effects of medication given for these disorders to make sure they're not triggering or exacerbating other conditions. It's rare to see that level of awareness from lecturers on this topic, I think, so it's refreshing to hear someone say some of the negative outcomes medication can have.
