Peter Pan

Peter Pan is a fictional character created by Scottish novelist and playwright J. M. Barrie. A free spirited and mischievous young boy who can fly and never grows up, Peter Pan spends his never-ending childhood having adventures on the mythical island of Neverland as the leader of the Lost Boys, interacting with fairies, pirates, mermaids, Native Americans, and occasionally ordinary children from the world outside Neverland.

I Won't Grow Up!

'Never Grow Up' is Peter Pan's motto, for the Lost Boys in Neverland are forever young. "I won't grow up...and if someone tries to make us, we will simply run away!"

"Leonard Bernstein. Peter Pan. Koch International. "Collectors of original-Broadway-cast albums -- and few others -- will know that a lifetime ago, in 1950, Leonard Bernstein dashed off the score for a reasonably successful revival of J. M. Barrie's Peter Pan. Jean Arthur, in the title role, celebrated her 50th birthday midway through the run. Boris Karloff, best remembered as Frankenstein's Monster and Dr. Fu Manchu, was Captain Hook." Cathy Rigby as Peter Pan. Rigby began her career as an gymnast (Summer Olympics 1968) and took on the role of the Neverland boy in 1974. Perhaps accentuating that Pan never grows up, Rigby has performances booked for 2013.

"All children, except one, grow up." (the first line of Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie) If your only experience with this story is the popular animated version - the book will be an extraordinary adventure. Filled with rich language, unique characters, and wonderful humor it is not a tale for children alone. Look for an edition with illustrations by Trina Schart Hyman. (Read Peter Pan online at Gutenberg.org.)

Neverland is J. M. Barrie's version of the classic world of Faery - the realm of magic and wonder, where anything can happen. While in most fairy-tales this is a secluded forest realm, Barrie's Neverland is an island only reachable by flying through the sky, space and time.
