Claire Softley's Cat Illustrations

The Jealous Curator says: "They are the work of UK based artist/illustrator Claire Softley, and I want a close up of each one of them in their own kitty-enhancing frame hung in a giant feline-grid on my living room wall! "

Illustrations fuel the imagination. Whether paired with words or presented by themselves, illustration is the physical embodiment of the imagination. They allow you to see things differently and to feel in ways you're never felt before. The bring the things in your mind to life and allow you to connect with other people in ways you never thought possible. Illustration is nothing unless you make it something. Illustration is nothing without the mind and the imagination. Illustration is hope and confessions and thoughts and feelings and looks into the lives of an artist. It is life itself, as long as you chose to keep it alive.

My work should speak for itself. Illustration is something that is unique to each individual illustrator. It's communication in it's rawest form. It is without words and can be just about anything you could imagine. I believe it should be fun and playful and filled with your own personal experiences. Instead of trying to illustrate what's already out there, you need to illustrate what's in your mind. Chances are that no matter how weird it is, it's probably going to look awesome as long as you stop thinking and start creating. I do best when I just have fun. Dr. Seuss himself did not know how to draw, and that's what made his work so cool!
