These athletes are capable of reaching speeds over 40 mph and stride lengths close to 30 feet. They have both the capabilities and the heart to win. The X-factor, or the desire to run, can explain some of the amazing horses known to the sport, including the 1973 Triple Crown Winner whose heart was more than twice the size of an average Thoroughbred's.
