Veins take deoxygenated blood to the heart, and arteries take oxygenated blood away from the heart. But there is one exception, the pulmonary arteries are the only arteries that take deoxygenated blood away from the heart. The pulmonary veins are the only veins that take oxygenated blood to the heart.
