Haunted house

A haunted house or ghosthouse is a house or other building often perceived as being inhabited by disembodied spirits of the deceased who may have been former residents or were familiar with the property. Parapsychologists attribute haunting to the spirits of the dead and the effect of violent or tragic events in the building's past such as murder, accidental death, or suicide. More scientific explanations for the perception that a house is haunted include misinterpreting noises naturally present in structures, waking dreams, suggestibility, and the effect of toxic substances in environments that can cause hallucinations.

Some of Pennsylvania's best ghost stories happen in the woods. This tree (pictured), is called the Skull Tree or the Baby's Cradle and is located along Devil's Road on the Delaware-Pennsylvania border. It has been called the Baby's Cradle because a fetus has been found among the roots. People reported finding decapitated baby doll heads there. More recent news indicates the Skull Tree was filled in with concrete, then later completely removed due to the consistent activity there. Some personal stories:

The story of the Gates of Hell haunted place near Uniontown, PA. A man reportedly killed his wife, burned down their house, then killed himself in this area of PA. The house was somewhere behind these gates, and voices and laughter have been heard near the gates. Witnesses also claim to have seen balls of light.
