If I were given the power to change society in a positive way I would rid the world of hate. Hate is responsible for many negative things in society like murder, jealousy, and stealing. Hate is a transitive verb, which means it needs a direct object. When people hate they hate something whether it be an ideal, a person, or an inanimate object. Hate is also a verb which means it requires action. True hate is not passive, it is an active process. That’s why people often act out on hate. However, God who is recorded as hating Esau (Romans 9:13) is different. God, who is love, is able to hate and love at the same time. Human beings are incapable of loving what they hate, that’s why we always act out negatively. Humans cannot handle hate. Hate is like a disease, once caught it will devour its host and anything in its path. It can destroy people, their relationships, and even entire civilizations. When people hate it steadily eats away at them. If you hate a person then every time you see them you will be upset. “He thinks he’s all that, I can’t stand him.” If you hate a person you will think about how much you hate them, and how terrible they are. When this happens your thoughts are no longer your own, eventually all you will think about is that hate. This causes you to become obsessed. At this point you’re only hurting yourself, but your obsession will eventually drive you mad. You will lose all of your friends and family because all you talk about is hate. I want to rid this world of hate by giving people the power to let go, to forgive and forget. Hate is often manifested in unbreakable cycles. One very famous example is the conflict between Sunni and Shiite Muslims. A very long time ago these two groups had a disagreement about the successor to Muhammad. Now their conflict is very violet, many people on both sides die. If a Sunni kills a Shiite then some Shiites will group together to kill that Sunni. This cycle will continue until the end of time if it is not stopped. Eventually these groups will forget why they fight each other and their only justification for their hate will be tradition. I want to help people to forgive and to forget so that these endless cycles of hatred can end. To be completely rid of hate you have to do more than forgive and forget. Once the hate is gone there is a void left in its place. This void can be filled again with hate. Instead I want to fill this void with love. If I had the power to change this world for the better I would spread the message of love.
