There Probably Won't be a Mini-Ice Age in 15 Years

Pictured is a wintery scene of a shivering man in a snowstorm. IFL Science spoke to the researcher who started the furor that reduced solar activity could lead to another small ice age yesterday. It turns out it was actually journalists who picked up on the possible impact on the climate. The research or predictions about the environment shouldn't be dismissed however. A cool fact: During the last time the Sun had an especially inactive period (called the Maunder Minimum) in which fewer sunspots were produced than usual and was during the 17th century for 50-60 years, the River Thames in England froze over and people could walk from one side to the other!

We Could Be Heading for A Mini Ice Age in 2030

A recent announcement from solar scientists suggest that the sun is going to enter a period of significant reduced activity possibly leading to a mini ice age by 2030. Scientists mapped the movement of solar fluid that moves in 11 year cycles which correspond to weather cycles on Earth. Around the year 2022 a pair of waves will be moving to the Sun's Northern and Southern hemispheres, becoming slowly out of sync and reducing solar activity as well as our warm weather.

Scientists Have Discovered Living Near Trees Is Good for your Health

People relax in the shadow of a trees at the Parc Royal in Brussels, Belgium. Research shows that urban neighborhoods filled with trees are better for your health. The scientists can't exactly pinpoint a single mechanism that specifically causes trees to improve health but however one possible explanation is that trees are known to improve urban air quality by pulling ozone and other pollutants into their leaves and out of the air thus partly protecting people from them. Another explanation is being around greenery reduces stress and can even increase one's inclination to exercise.
