English literature

This article is focused on English-language literature rather than the literature of England, so that it includes writers from Scotland, Wales, and the whole of Ireland, as well as literature in English from countries of the former British Empire, including the United States. However, until the early 19th century, it only deals with the literature of the United Kingdom and Ireland. It does not include literature written in the other languages of Britain.

People wonder what English Literature involves. Most of it comes from written masterpieces that have been written decades or even centuries ago. Most of the famous literature people run into are works of William Shakespeare and Mark Twain. Most people that are exposed to English literature may not understand it at first. This is due to the fact that the material was written in old English and because of how it is translated into today's language. And, if someone were to look up a better translation, then they will find that there are different versions of the translation. Most of the time this is because of how the translator deciphered the text. Sometimes, this may cause the person looking up the translation to to become confused and might even turn them away from English literature. But, if a correct and easier transition if found, then the audience of the material will become more attached and may even favor it.
