Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower (/ˈfəl/ EYE-fəl; French: tour Eiffel [tuʁ‿ɛfɛl] ( listen)) is a wrought iron lattice tower on the Champ de Mars in Paris, France. It is named after the engineer Gustave Eiffel, whose company designed and built the tower.

Eiffel Tower in stormy weather

I took this photo while in France in 2012. The weather was quite stormy during my visit, but the Eiffel Tower was still breathtaking. I was also looking at facts online and discovered that the height of the Eiffel Tower varies by 5.9 inches (15 cm) due to temperature changes. Pretty cool, huh?

La Tour Eiffel is breathtaking.

Last April, I received an amazing opportunity to go to France with fourteen other students. Here are only a few of my pictures of the Eiffel Tower.

Eiffel Tower Lit At Night

View looking up through the trees from a corner cafe that rests right near the feet of the Eiffel Tower. The Tower lights up once it becomes dark, acting as a beacon to see all the way up and down the river. A light show occurs on the hour from dusk until 1am, which the tower lights sparkling in and out for 10 minutes each time. A beautiful sight to wrap up a day touring Paris! (Original photo taken June 21, 2013).

Selling the Eiffel Tower

My favorite fact is that Victor Lustig attempted to "sell" the Eiffel Tower for scrap metal. He was just a con artist though and actually got away with this scheme twice.

View from the top at night

I think the view is even more impressive at night. I took this shot in Sept. 2013. As a note, if you climb the steps to the second level and ride to the top from there, it saves a few euros, but more importantly, you avoid the long lines. Plus, it's good exercise!
