Cyberbullying

Cyberbullying or cyberharassment is a form of bullying or harassment using electronic forms of contact. Cyberbullying has become increasingly common, especially among teenagers. Harmful bullying behavior can include posting rumors about a person, threats, sexual remarks, disclose victims' personal information, or pejorative labels (i.e., hate speech). Bullying or harassment can be identified by repeated behavior and an intent to harm. Victims may have lower self-esteem, increased suicidal ideation, and a variety of emotional responses, retaliating, being scared, frustrated, angry, and depressed. Individuals have reported that cyberbullying can be more harmful than traditional bullying.

We all hear about cyber-bullying and just regular bullying and it is a strong topic thatmost people just roll their eyes at and ignore, but this is how people really feel. This movie clearly and accurately portrays the way that people would act and could act, but no one does anything. Some people are scared to call for help too. Do not be afraid to tell someone or feel guilty because you did and it did not turn out the way it should have. You have a voice, use it!

Words can hurt more than anything. Being a kid is hard and knowing you don't have a voice against the many that hate on you every day is worse. Bullying is wrong and I don't think anyone should do it. I once bullied a girl when I was in 4th grade. I never knew how much I was hurting her until one day I got bullied. She helped me and defended me. Till this day I hate bullying and I still regret hurting her. Please think before you speak. Sometimes your words can be a painful weapon.

A lot of cyber-bullies are actually cyber bullied themselves. A 2010 study led by Andre Sourander showed that “Both cyberbullying and cybervictimization are associated with psychiatric and psychosomatic problems. The most troubled are those who are both bullies and victims”.

Parents have inadvertently been enabling children to cyber-bully their peers without even knowing it. Susan Keith and Michelle A. Martin stated “In the past several years, parents have provided cell phones for their children in order to keep track of them and to keep them safe. The same cell phones that make parents feel more connected to their children have become tools of harassment”.
