Cross country is one of the most difficult sports out there, as it is made up by high volumes of running. It requires a huge amount of discipline and an intense work ethic in order to succeed. Races can be anywhere from 4,000 to 10,000 meters, varying based on gender, skill, and the division of the school that is competing. They often include hills and trails, so training during this season is usually on these types of terrain. Cross country is an extremely difficult yet incredibly rewarding sport.

Many high schools go to higher elevations for a week to 1 month to train. Training in high elevations allows for the production of more red blood cells to obtain more oxygen in the body, thus improving performance. Not to mention the ability to bond with teams and create a more family like environment.
