I recently took up crocheting and have made a lot of headbands and scarves. I think it helps a lot to keep track of exactly how many stitches you start with, because then you know how many you need if you want to make something thinner or wider. For example, if a perfect headband width for me, a teen girl is about 8 stitches across, then making one for my father would be more like 11 or 12 stitches. So make sure to keep track of how many stitches you use, it makes it a lot easier!
