The Carambola is described as being a combination of an apple and an orange both in texture and taste. You can also tell that it has ripened once it has turned mostly yellow and slight green and brown edges.

Starfruit shape

Although the fruit has a funny shape when intact as a whole, when the Carambola (starfruit) is cut, the pieces are in shapes of stars which make them a great pre-shaped decoration piece for any plate of food.
