Blood donation

A blood donation occurs when a person voluntarily has blood drawn and used for transfusions and/or made into biopharmaceutical medications by a process called fractionation (separation of whole-blood components). Donation may be of whole blood (WB), or of specific components directly (the latter called apheresis). Blood banks often participate in the collection process as well as the procedures that follow it.

The Red Cross makes it very easy for all who are eligible to donate. I am terrified of needles, but once I got over myself and went to donate, it wasn't bad at all! My longest donation experience took about 45 mins, but I'm usually out in 20-30 mins. It's such a simple way to save lives! The website lets you search for drives in your area, gives resources on how to prepare for an appointment, and tells you how you can get involved in ways other than donating.
