Ballet /ˈbæl/ (French: [balɛ]) is a type of performance dance that originated during the Italian Renaissance in the 15th century and later developed into a concert dance form in France and Russia. It has since become a widespread, highly technical form of dance with its own vocabulary based on French terminology. It has been globally influential and has defined the foundational techniques used in many other dance genres and cultures. Ballet has been taught in various schools around the world, which have historically incorporated their own cultures and as a result, the art has evolved in a number of distinct ways. See glossary of ballet.

Road to Recovery

This picture may not be some large achievement. It may not be an impressive pose. It may not be brilliant. Yet to me, it is a milestone. I have been dancing for fourteen years. However, during my sophomore year of high school I injured my back and ankle requiring me to take over a year off. The doctor didn't think I would be able to continue ballet and pointe work. This is my second year back at pointe since taking time off, and I am finally returning to my original level. It has been a hard and painful journey, but I am so proud of myself and how much I have accomplished.

A good tip to keep your pointe shoes ribbons in place for a performance is use a clear band-aid! Does the trick.

I love this solo! My favorite to do, well except the time I fell doing the turns and broke my elbow! But I still love it. :)

For all those used to putting on pointe shoes for performances and who are tired of trying to fit the ribbons perfectly underneath themselves so they won't show, a great tool to use is hairspray. :) It keeps them right in place!
