Anime

Anime (Japanese: アニメ, [aɲime], plural: anime) is a Japanese term for hand-drawn or computer animation. The word is the abbreviated pronunciation of "animation" in Japanese, where this term references all animation. Outside Japan, anime is used to refer specifically to animation from Japan or as a Japanese-disseminated animation style often characterized by colorful graphics, vibrant characters and fantastical themes. For simplicity, many Westerners strictly view anime as a Japanese animation product. Some scholars suggest defining anime as specifically or quintessentially Japanese may be related to a new form of orientalism.

As a long time follower of Naruto, I can't help but be excited about this. Despite Naruto's overuse of fillers, shounen clichés, and hours of flashbacks, it was still the show that brought me into the realm of anime. And to see a new generation of ninja...well now...the hype is quite real.

Is anime dying?

My personal opinion is no. While others (including Hayao Miyazaki) argue that a lot of shows simply pander to fans and aim to make money, we have to remember that in general, things of truly "good" quality are few and rare. Those good films and shows are as few and rare as those in the past. Meanwhile, the fanbase for anime is booming internationally. The greatest concern I can think of is the sustainability of the industry and the art of 2D animation, as more and more young people are being discouraged by the industry's low pay. But right now, anime is quite alive, mind you.

Why Clannad (and other Key anime) make you cry

Other than the enormous eyes and near nonexistent nose, there has to be something substantial that makes Key anime and Maeda's works so tear jerking. And it is: the amount of comedy and happiness that set the scene up for a massive tragedy.

Hichigo vs Kurama

Two of the most powerful "inner demons" within two of the most powerful protagonists in anime. I wonder who would win here as well >:)

Death the Kid vs Uryuu Ishida

Two "OCD" characters that are different than the rest of the other characters, and both use long ranged weaponry. May possibly be a very interesting match >:)
