Africa

Africa is the world's second-largest and second-most-populous continent. At about 30.3 million km² (11.7 million square miles) including adjacent islands, it covers 6% of Earth's total surface area and 20.4% of its total land area. With 1.2 billion people as of 2016, it accounts for about 16% of the world's human population.

A new traveling art exhibit depicts a wide range of contemporary artwork which shows various African artists' stories of love, life and struggle showing that they want change. I like the part where the photographer and multimedia artist Jim Chuchu says, "When you create images that have never been seen before, then that allows people to start to imagine things they have never imagined before. It's almost like creating a map for people to dream with." According to artist Wayne Baker these artists are now getting the chance to express themselves for the first time in hundreds of years.

Did you know that the United States of America, China, France, India, Germany, and several other countries can fit inside the borders of Africa? Seriously! Take a look at a world map and see how small Africa is depicted in regards to other countries or continents and then think about all of these countries fitting inside of it! This picture also brings into question issues of imperialism, eurocentrism, and other biases which are very interesting to discuss if anyone is interested. Take a loot at the true size of Africa.

Starvation in Africa

In Africa, starvation is a well-known and rampant issue. Their population is so great that there is simply not enough food to go around in the poorer parts of the continent. Children are especially hurt by this problem--when you're a child you are growing, and often need more food than grown adults to compensate for how much it'll burn off during growth. And while common people like you and I can't do a whole lot, we can help in little ways. For one, by going on www.freerice.com ... this is a website that hosts a word game, and every answer you get right sends ten grains of rice to Africa. While that's not a lot in itself, it'll add up and definitely makes it worth it.

What is Sussle?

Sussle is the first, open visual encyclopedia. Anyone can use it.

What's a visual encylopedia?

It has beautiful images and viral videos that are way more fun than reading all the text in traditional encyclopedias.

5 reasons you should add your own images and videos:

  1. If you found Sussle interesting, then give back by adding something interesting for others.
  2. Help others learn in a fun way.
  3. Make someone else interested in this topic laugh or say wow!
  4. Become internet-famous as people like and share your post.
