Aaliyah Dana Haughton (/ɑːˈlə/; January 16, 1979 – August 25, 2001) was an American singer, actress, and model. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Detroit, Michigan. At the age of 10, she appeared on the television show Star Search and performed in concert alongside Gladys Knight. At age 12, Aaliyah signed with Jive Records and her uncle Barry Hankerson's Blackground Records. Hankerson introduced her to R. Kelly, who became her mentor, as well as lead songwriter and producer of her debut album, Age Ain't Nothing but a Number. The album sold three million copies in the United States and was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). After facing allegations of an illegal marriage with R. Kelly, Aaliyah ended her contract with Jive and signed with Atlantic Records.

Baby Girl

When you first look at this picture, you see this woman with these baggy clothes and hair almost covering her face. I was surprised to hear this same woman open her mouth and almost an angelic singing voice coming out that was blended with a hip hop beat. Through the 90's, Aaliyah was this icon that changed the ideal of how women were to be expressed. Not only was she beautiful and had this persona of a tomboy, but she had made music that would remembered wherever she would go; in this world and the next, she would always be called Baby Girl.

Aaliyah's wonderful voice is one that cannot be replicated. Artist, today, still use her voice on the music they create.

Aaliyah- Rock the Boat Aaliyah's last music video. For those of you who don't know, just a few hours after filming this music video Aaliyah and some of her friends were killed in a horrible plane crash in the Bahamas. That's what makes this song so bittersweet; you enjoy the beat and vocals of this song, but then remember that it was her last video. She was a beautiful artist with an amazing talent, definitely one of a kind.
