Did you know that Shakespeare often changed the style of dialogue in his plays to prove a point? For example in the first four acts of Hamlet, all lines are written in verse, or poetry-like. However in Act 5, in the Gravedigger scene, the Gravedigger speaks in prose as does Hamlet. The shift is to symbolize that although the Gravedigger seems crazy, he is really the sane and practical character. classes.midlandstech.edu
