The City of Cleveland takes extreme action to demolish the presence of the House of Horrors. "This is closure, and a type of retribution."
Here you can see photos I took of the scene hours after the girls were found. Most of the street was blocked off to the public. This is the closest you could have gotten to Ariel Castro's house. News crews from all over the country came to my city. I even got a glimpse of Anderson Cooper in a trailer. Not something I would like to be known for...
Every year in August, just before the Carnation Festival, a Pageant is held. The primary purpose of the pageant is to reveal the beauty and knowledge of one lucky young adult female from the area. The contestants must be area natives and be in their senior year of high school or college years. The chosen queen and their court then embarks on a "journey of a lifetime" for one year, learning about Alliance, OH and all it has to offer. The finalists and queen were just named to the court for the year 2013 on August 11th.

My mother died of MM in December of 1999. I was only eight years old, she was 44. MM is normally considered an "older" disease because it typically affects individuals in their later years. My mother was one of the exceptions. She became ill at age 42 and showed signs/symptoms rapidly. In a matter of months, she developed MODS (multiple organ dysfunction syndrome) and embarked on a downhill battle for her life. Now, as I age and more research is being done on MM, I'm excited. Excited in the fact that less and less families have to deal with the stressors and every day battles of this debilitating cancer. But, we are far from a cure. My goal is to educate people in any way that I can about the realness of MM and to hopefully share my mother's story.
