Many high schools go to higher elevations for a week to 1 month to train. Training in high elevations allows for the production of more red blood cells to obtain more oxygen in the body, thus improving performance. Not to mention the ability to bond with teams and create a more family like environment.

In high school and middle school athletes run the 1600m run but in the Olympics and professional league they run the 1500m run. Likewise in high school they have the 3200m run but the pros do the 3000m run. I am a coach for a youth track and field organization and we also do the 1500 and 3000m run.
