A very well done anti-texting while driving video made by a high school student for Project Yellow Light. This video is clever and concise without having gore or being overwhelming like some texting while driving campaigns. Can you believe 42% of young adult drivers are very/somewhat confident that they can safely text while driving?! (2012, Ad Council)

Gender Inequality in the Film Industry

The wage gap between men and women in white collar jobs has become very apparent and controversial as of late. This article shows that wage gap in the movie industry as well as other gender inequalities in films. Did you know that in the movies from 2007-2012 only 30% of the speaking characters were women? And that only 10.7% of movies had a gender balanced cast? And don't even get me started on non-binary and transgender representation!

Politics and Teenagers

Even if teenagers are not old enough to vote, politics still effects them. It effects their education, their parents, their neighbors. Politicians need to start treating teens like voting adults because we care. "If politicians want young people to vote, then they have a duty to us to improve political education in schools. However, we also need to play our part, and show that we are not the apathetic youth the media has stereotyped us as being, so, if you want things to change, make it happen." -Susannah Keogh, Huffington Post

Lemur Meditation

This little guy seemed so at peace. He was in an open area apart from the rest of the safari ride. They do this in the sun to gain warmth. He stay surprisingly still for a long time. Our guide said they often sit with their legs crossed for this "meditation."

Feeding Giraffes

I had the opportunity to feed one of the giraffes at the Winston Wildlife Safari. They have definitely been classical conditioned into knowing when they will be fed by tourist. As soon as our truck pulled up, it walked right up to us. This one especially liked the bananas with the peels on.

Khayam from Winston Wildlife Safari

This is one of the cheetahs I met while on a wildlife safari in Winston, Oregon. This wildlife preserve is "dedicated to conservation, education and research of native and exotic wildlife." They are AZA Accredited and have a cheetah breeding program. She was taken in as a cub, after the mother abandoned them.

Recycling in Exchange For Feeding Stray Dogs

When you deposit a water bottle into one of the Pugedon machines, it instantly dispenses dog food for the strays to come by and eat. There is also a water bowl you can fill up with any excess water in your bottles. This promotes recycling and feeds local strays.

Shelley Jackson’s Skin Project

"Shelley Jackson’s Skin project, a 2095-word story published exclusively in tattoos, one word each on as many willing volunteers, so it can never be read in its proper order, but just exists, pulsing, out in the world at all times." This is mind-blowing! How cool would it be to physically be a part of a written story?!
